My new book is out!

I am thrilled to announce that my second book Quit the Hustle is out now! This book happened accidentally. I had no intention of writing another book so soon. But when I experienced burnout last year and hid myself away in a sleepy little town I wrote it all down to work through it. While I was doing that I noticed that I wasn't the only one who was utterly exhausted: a friend of mine was going through the same process, giving up her side business because she simply couldn't do it anymore.
I also found more and more articles talking about how the glorification of the hustle is making us sick and unhappy. I had so much to say on that subject that Quit the Hustle was born!

This book is about being fed up with never feeling good enough. Like so many of us, I've always felt like I should be more: more successful, more attractive, more ambitious, skinnier, fitter. I didn't feel that way because my friends or family told me to, or even because I myself wanted it; no, it's what society tells us. Advertisements, commercials, social media, and a thousand stories we absorb every day all carry the same message: that we are not good enough the way we are. We should want to become better, to not be satisfied with what we have, but to always want more.

It's a dangerous message. A goal-driven culture teaches us to chase something we don't have, instead of enjoying what we already have. It keeps us constantly dissatisfied, making us believe that we will only be happy once we have achieved that goal. But we get so used to the hustle that we want more even after having reached our goal.
If we originally wanted to get 1,000 followers on Instagram, once we have achieved that we want 2,000; soon it will be 5,000, or 10,000. The same applies to weight loss, or fitness, or career goals.

Once we buy into the belief that more is better, nothing we achieve will ever be enough.

I needed to break free from that mindset in order to live now, not in a distant future. I didn't want to spend the rest of my life chasing something that was just out of my reach.
I wrote this book to remind ourselves that perfection is an illusion and not a requirement for a happy and fulfilled life.

You can have a job you like but don't love and be happy.
You don't have to turn your hobby into a side hustle that makes money, unless you really want to.
Stop believing that you have to improve everything about yourself; you are enough the way you are!
Diet culture is an inhumane, money-making machine that doesn't care one bit about people and only about the bottom line.
Doing is completely overvalued in our society, while being is where we will find ourselves.
Exhaustion isn't a badge of honour, but a serious warning sign that we need to rest more.
You don't have to apologize for living your life the way you want.

Quit the Hustle is available on Amazon now!

    1. Yes, it was a breeze in comparison! Self-publishing gives you so much freedom, Iove it! Plus there's no cost beforehand, which gives you way more peace of mind. Most importantly, my expectations are much more realistic than they were last year. It's great!

    1. Thank you so much Jenn! This book was so much easier to write than the first one, and so much more enjoyable.
Believing that the first one should become a commercial success in order to make it worthwhile (which it wasn't) took most of the fun out of it for me. This time around I have no expectations beyond feeling proud for having written it. No more hustling!

  3. I feel like you wrote this one for me. I quit my second job at the beginning of the summer. Couldn't do 12 days on/2 days off for even a second longer. I just ordered the book, I can't wait to get started!

    1. I'm so glad! And phew, your former schedule was bananas! No wonder you couldn't do it any longer, it's way too much.

But so many of us believe that we are *supposed* to be able to swing it, or we may appear weak.
No wonder so many of us are burnt out.
I'm so happy you found a better balance in your life! Enjoy the summer!🌞
