I was curled up in bed yesterday, watching the rain and enjoying that exciting feeling of knowing that summer is still ahead of us. It's one of the best feelings in the world, isn't it? Summer in my mind will always be the season of being footloose and carefree, of long hot days and deep cool water, of letting your hair blow in the breeze and not having a care in the world.
Ironically, it's also the time of the year where I work the most, because I'm the vacation relief for my co-workers, but that's life. Still, with the long days of summer I can squeeze in some fun before or after work, and to make sure that I won't forget any of the things I love doing in the summer I made a bucket list!
1. Make ice cream. Rich got an ice cream maker for his birthday, which was really a gift for me (thanks Elaine!), and I'm dying to try it out!
2. Swim in lakes. I fell in love with the beautiful green lakes we have here in BC since my first dip 17 years ago! Summer isn't summer without going swimming at least once.
3. Hammock time. Reading and napping in the shade of my She Shed porch are summer essentials.
4. Eat all the cherries. Plus, try my hand on canning? A friend of mine wants to share her canning secrets with me, and at almost 40 years old I guess it's about time to enter my canning stage of life.
5. Go for some hikes. I'm surrounded by hikers, and they make me want to go out there and explore some more this summer!
6. Go canoeing. It's just the best.
7. Go tubing. It's also just the best.
8. Gimme all the summer food: BBQ, watermelon, peaches, ice cream, big-ass salads, sangria, pasta salads, ratatouille, pesto, sushi ... 🍑🍒🍣🍱🍡🍧
9. Spend as much time as possible with this sexy dude ↓
10. Find a publisher for my new book - or self-publish. I wrote a new book about quitting the hustle, and I'm currently "shopping it around" (author speak for trying to find a publisher and/or agent). Should I not find someone I will self-publish it, because its positive message will be helpful and uplifting for many women out there. Stay tuned!
What's on your summer bucket list?
xoxo Miriam
Look into my amazing friend Sarah at Cool Creative Press (coolcreativepress.com). She self published and decided to create her own publishing company for people like her, those who have a positive message the world NEEDS but are not big enough to be scooped up by the big publishing companies!
