She Shed Mood Board

I'm sitting on my desk, and when I look past the computer screen out of the window, I see fresh snow. Again. We've had snow since the beginning of November, and at this point, I can barely remember what the farm looks like underneath all the white stuff. In a little while, I will have to bundle up and go outside to feed, sliding my way across the sheet of ice that's covering every inch, hiding under the snow and making every step a dangerous adventure. Fun, fun, fun. 😖

What gets me through the long winter months is books, online shopping (I ordered something else, this fabulous silk top in red - isn't it amazing?!), and making plans for the spring.
On top of my to-do list is the she shed Rich is building me, and I'm having the best time designing it!

One of the most important features for me is getting a large bookshelf, because in our house is no room for one. This is the first time in my life that most of my books live in boxes instead of being displayed on shelves, and it's hurting my heart.
But not for much longer! One entire wall of my shed will be dedicated to my books, and I just found the perfect DIY for built-in-bookshelves on Pinterest:
Photo found here
It's an IKEA hack! Which means it will be cheap, and when I showed it to Rich, he said he could do it no problem. In anticipation of my beautiful bookshelf I've started to buy more 'real' books again, instead of downloading everything onto my Kindle. I love my Kindle, but it cannot replace the feel and look of a real book. I'm soooooo excited!

The interior will be white, but I'm considering having one feature wall. Ever since I discovered Katie Kime's colourful wallpaper, I've been thinking about having one outrageous, fun, totally wild wall.
I mean, just look at how awesome her designs are (images found here):

It's really difficult to narrow it down, but here are my top 3 choices:

Hmm, how hard would it be to DIY this design? Something to think about ...

These dragonflies are amazing:

Which one do you like best?

I'm also picking out the art for the walls, which will be Harry Potter-/life advice-themed. (Is this a category? If not, it should be!)
When I say art, what I mean is printing off quotes from the Internet, framing them and hanging them on the wall. I'm not exactly what you'd call an art-fan, and I much prefer to put up personal photos, knick-knacks, and gifts I get from friends.

These 3 quotes will be individually framed. I'm trying to channel more of Sirius Black when it comes to making bold decisions - after all, "What is life, without a little risk?"

I'm still torn between getting a sectional or a sofa bed. We want to use it as a guest house, so I'm guessing a sofa bed makes more sense - do any of you have recommendations for comfy ones?
All I know at this point is that I don't want leather, and that it has to be a fun colour 😉

I'm getting a real wood stove in there, because I'm a little pyromaniac at heart, and having a real fire is part of my Canadian fantasy. Is there anything cozier? (No, there isn't.)

The other most important feature is a sturdy desk, because my shed will be my main work space.
I'm thinking this desk and chair:
I already have the rug, because when I ordered one for our living room last year, they accidentally sent two, and I kept both because I love them so much:

My vision is to have calm white walls with black accents, and little explosions of colour thrown in - bright colours make me happy!
I can't wait to get started.

Have a happy and bright Sunday!

xoxo Miriam

  1. Oh my goodness, I am so jealous! It sounds like it is going to be gorgeous and fun and cheerful. I like the middle wallpaper best and I think you could totally DIY it. Of course, I am saying that because I am not going to be doing it so take that with a grain of salt. Your wall of bookshelves sounds amazing. I dream of having a room just for me and my books. I am going to have to live vicariously through you.

    1. It's been a life-long dream of mine as well, and oh, I'm so excited! It's one of the highlights of this year for me haha!
I'm thinking the DIY shouldn't be too hard, I printed off the swatch and I'm just gonna copy it. You can't really make a mistake with abstract art, can you?

  2. The dragonflies!!!!! With your rug they will look amazing.......<3 The camels second :))) it will be gorgeous whichever way you do it. In Ft Vermilion I had an Ikea hideabed that was very comfortable, easy to fold up/ out, and to make a cover for it, would be super easy (Lovass or something?) Also it is compact. Bought a new couch/ hideabed and wish I had not, should have gotten another of those foldit jobs again

    1. Good to know, thanks Marijke! Richard suggested a hideabed and I scoffed at the idea, but I will rethink the idea 🤔
There is going to be a lot of couch- and bed-testing in my near future! 😂
