Some summer pics!

Today is the third day in a row that feels (I don't even want to say it out loud, so I'll just whisper it: fall-ish), so I finished watching Little Fires Everywhere on Amazon (just as good as the book, I highly recommend!), and now I've been sorting through my photos. Summer came late this year, it basically only arrived 2 months ago, but every hot day has been precious. It's not over yet, but we've definitely entered the stage of late summer: the nights are getting cooler, the days are getting shorter, and the light has changed. The stark yellow and blue of high summer have given way to a softer, warmer, golden glow. Many mornings are now overcast, the ground wet with dew, and I've started putting on a sweater with my morning coffee.

It doesn't matter - I love the changing of the seasons, even though it's bittersweet when the majority of summer has passed.
But it also leads to reflection, and today I'm gonna share a few photos with you of our summer so far!

Beating the heat wave with an old-fashioned sprinkler run.
I had my pool for about 2 days before the ducks moved in. You won't swim in a pool after ducks have taken it over. If you know, you know
Luckily, we have plenty of lakes close by to cool off in.
My fan brings all the girls to the yard.
The horses love summer just as much as I do.
Rich loves to take care of everything alive: plants, animals, humans. One of the things I love most about him.
This incredible mama managed to hatch 24 babies. 24!! That's unheard of. They're still all alive 14 days later. She's our Mother of the Year.
We've spent a lot of time on the porch this summer. My favourite place on earth.
Celebrating my body for what it is, weight gain and all. I have boobs now, even lying down!
The drives to work are epic this time of year.
So is the car decoration in 2020.
I've bought tons of fruit and veggies from this cute little market stand
Waiting for daddy to be done with his chores
Hiking with some of my fave co-workers
I've been dressing up in my favourite dresses for no reason, and it's made normal days feel special!
I take little videos throughout the day every day for my 1 second every day project. Sometimes, I capture little moments that would have gone unnoticed without this project. They mean a lot to me.
 Axel!
Dixie at 10 months old (she is now 1 year old)
Our smallest calf ever: Minnie Moo. Still thriving 2 months later
Petey at 10 months old (he's also 1 year old now)
A sun shower captured from the SheShed's porch
Despite the weirdness that is 2020, we are having a great time. As homebodies and introverts, our habits haven't really changed all that much. We've always been happiest hanging out at home with our animals, and now we get to do it without feeling guilty for feeling like we should be somewhere else. How's that for a glass-half-full outlook? 😉

I'm fully intending to enjoy every last warm day of this summer to the fullest, because - well, none of us know what the future holds. This is more true this year than ever before.
Have a fantastic late summer, friends!

  1. Great pictures, yes summer is shortened this year, and daybreak today was FOG! looked beautiful though. I get the duck/ pool situation, we had a huge pond in Oberfranken and only 2 ducks so it worked out, kindof.

    1. I wish I'd be nonchalant enough to share the pool with them, but the water is so dirty, I can't. They're having the time of their lives though, so it's all good!

There's a definite nip in the air after the sun sets now, but it's still deliciously warm during the day. I'm hanging on until the very last moment! I'm a summer girl at heart.
