Bring it on, 2018!

Happy New Year guys!!
Sorry for joining in late in the general "Best Year Yet!"-frenzy, but I have a good reason.
First, I was a bridesmaid for the first time in my life over the new year. I had a blast! I got my make-up done for the very first time in my life (it was a time of firsts, it seems), and I have to say, even though I'm a strong supporter of being natural, it was a great experience.

As you can probably tell, I'm wearing a ton of make-up and the face you see isn't even mine any more; it's more like an art project. Kudos to the make-up artists (yes, there were two!), they performed a miracle! I'm still trying to get the rest of the make-up off three days later, but it was totally worth it.

Before I arrived at wedding central, I had to brave some pretty ugly roads:

It was a white-knuckle ride, but again, totally worth it.

Once I returned home late on January 1, I focused all my energy on going over the manuscript of my book for (what is hopefully) the last time. I read the entire story once more from beginning to end, making sure all typos and grammatical errors had been ironed out. In doing so, I tried to read it in as detached a manner as possible (which I probably failed at spectacularly), and if nothing else, it accomplished one huge feat: I'm proud of it. No matter what will happen with the book this year, it's a labour of love, sweat and tears I'm immensely proud of. The tentative release date is sometime in April; but no worries, I will make a big announcement (and give-away) once I know the exact date!

Re-living my early 20s and all the associated pain, confusion, and heartbreak was hard. I honestly don't enjoy the first third of the book that much, because it was such a difficult and heartbreaking time for me. I was so clueless about everything: who I was, whom I loved, what I wanted to do with my life. I can't imagine anyone being more confused than I was at that time.
You know what got me through? A stubborn, yet fortunately ingrained optimism. I don't know who gave it to me, but whoever it was, I will forever be in your debt

Despite my fucked up family situation at that time, my depression, my absolute loss at what to do next? I never gave up dreaming.
My dreams led me to Canada, to Rich, to a life beyond my wildest dreams.

So, what does that mean for 2018?

This year is my year of joy. I have no major goals apart from having a great time, and enjoying the life we have built together. I'm doing a video diary of the year again with the 1 Second Everyday app, which I did once before in 2016 (only from February-November). It's a fun (and easy!) way to have a diary of the year!

We have no travel plans, because we have to see how Rich's recovery from Lyme Disease is going. It's a slow process, so we have to wait and see.

I envision this year as one filled with laughter, friends, good food, rest, reading and writing, and enjoying our beautiful surroundings. Simple joys.
I'm cooking more than I ever have before, and I'm enjoying it much more than I thought! I want to bake my own bread again, plant vegetables, and fill our home with even more palm trees. My goal is to celebrate every single day this year.

Because life is really beautiful.

xoxo Miriam
