Book signing in Calgary!

A few weeks ago, my marketing manager Kaleigh told me excitedly that a bookstore wanted me to do a reading and signing. My initial response was excitement ("omg, they chose me?!"), quickly followed by fear. In all the many months leading up to the release of my book, the thought of doing a public reading is what scared me the most. While I have a recurring fantasy of being a calm, poised and put-together person (and public speaker), the reality is that my hair is usually a bit messy, I trip over my words, and when I'm nervous I laugh too loudly at the wrong moment.

When I heard that the bookstore is in Calgary, about 8 hours away from us, I was relieved at the ready excuse to decline due to the distance.
But a tiny, insistent voice nudged me inside and whispered: "Wouldn't it be fun? Wouldn't it be an adventure?"
My initial reaction to almost anything is to say yes, then change my mind and back out because I'm too scared. But I've been actively fighting against this trait of mine, always asking myself
a) what's the worst that can happen? (Nobody comes/I don't sell a single book. Embarrassing, but not that terrible.)
b) will I sit in my rocking chair in 30 years, look back at this moment and be proud that I dared to do something, or regret that I never even tried? (That one usually settles it for me.)

Long story short:
I will be in Calgary this Saturday, July 7, from 11:00am - 2:00pm at Owl's Nest Books!
Britannia Shopping Plaza
815A 49th Avenue SW
Calgary, AB
T2S 1G8

I'm bringing the last 15 copies I currently have, which seems both wildly optimistic and poorly prepared. I guess we will find out which one it is on Saturday!
If you are in the area, please come and say hi! I will be the messy-haired, stuttering one with the German accent 😉

xoxo Miriam

    1. Yeah, 37 hours is a bit much ... 😉 On the bright side, we will both be hanging out in bookstores, so we're in the same environment, connected as mutual book lovers ❤📚
