Three cheers to spontaneity!

My husband is far from perfect.
He doesn't help nearly enough in the house for my liking, he is set in his ways, and he collects animals like other people stamps (which is awesome when it comes to dogs and cats, but not so much when it comes to chickens).

But he's also spontaneous, which is something I am not. I deluded myself for the longest time by believing that I was spontaneous, because I wanted to be one of those carefree, wild and cool women.
But the truth is that I worry too much, I like my routine, and I usually say no to unexpected changes of plans. I have a few goals every day, and I like to have them ticked off my list by the end of the day. Deviating from them is hard for me.

Two-and-a-half weeks ago my husband called me at my place in Princeton.
"Do you wanna go away for a week?" he asked me out of the blue.
"Of course I do!" I said eagerly. "When? In January sometime?"
"No, I was thinking this month. In the next couple of weeks?"
Wow. I had to let this sink in for a minute. Could I get the time off? Did we have someone to look after the farm? Where should we go?
After talking about it for a while longer we decided on Cancun, Mexico.
My awesome co-worker agreed to take some of my shifts, our awesome neighbours agreed to look after the farm - which means that tomorrow morning we are flying off to sun, sand, and palm trees!

Rich and I haven't been away together since spring 2016, and I'm thrilled that we're going on an adventure I didn't know about at the beginning of the month.

Three cheers to spontaneity!
xoxo Miriam

    1. We had the best time, I'm about to make a little travel video and putting a blog post together. But it also feels good to be back home! I always miss the dogs when I'm away from them.
