July goals

Hi there, last day of June! Summer is supposed to be just starting, but in these parts it's been going strong for a good two months. Totally crazy and not typical, yet totally awesome!
I have the freckles to prove it: the sun is making out with my face every day (I wear SPF 30 daily, I swear). | Watermelon, the fruit of summer.

Today I am linking up with my friend Mariah from Food, Booze, & Baggage and her group of kick-ass goal getters to maximize my month!

Maximize Your Month

You all know the power of lists, and how much more likely it is to get sh*t done when it's written down somewhere.
But before I share my list with you, let's take a look at June, shall we?

June was a good month for us.
It was filled with lunch dates, a memorable al fresco family dinnermeeting three ostriches, and hours upon hours spent in the shade, sipping cold drinks and enjoying life. We welcomed Donald Duck into our family, and he even did some yoga with me!
Speaking of yoga, take a look at this little video - this is what happens every.single.day., Nina barrelling into me. It does wonders for your concentration! Sadly, it's impossible to keep my mat clean, which in turn means my clothes are always getting dirty. Ah, well. #farmlife

For Rich's birthday we went on a quickie roadtrip to Oregon where we had a fantastic dinner at the Red Star Tavern
To get an idea of what a typical day in June looked like, you can read it here: A day in my life.

Onward and upward they say, so let's take a look at what I want to achieve in July:

Scrapbooking
Yes, you've read this right: I am joining the ranks of scrapbookers. Reading ABM daily for years must have left its mark, because suddenly I cannot wait to get started! I want to do it Project Life-style, and I'm impatiently awaiting the arrival of the album and pages. My plan is to do a monthly recap, and my goal is to do all of 2015 in the next month.
Interestingly enough, the idea for this comes from my husband - he said a little while ago that our life is so beautiful right now, we should do an album "or something" to remember it by. Say no more my love, I'm on it! Obviously I will share the results with you here.

Swimming in the ocean
Every year I want to swim in the ocean at least once. We live half an hour away from the beach, but I have to admit that I rarely go - most of the time I much rather hang out with the dogs at home. But in July I want to swim in the Pacific!

Go camping and speed boating
One of our friends invited us to go up to Merritt (our happy place) to go speed boating! You know how people always say "let's do this sometime", and then it never happens? Well, it's on The List, so we'll make it happen!

Yoga
Yup, I still yoga every day, and I will continue to do so. I wish I could say I am determined to master the freestanding handstand this month, but it doesn't look promising, so I won't. No  need to set myself up for failure, right?

Write and read daily
I want to be a better writer, and all the advice I've read basically says the same: In order to be a writer, you have to write. And the more you do it, the better you will get. So this is my goal: Write something daily - either a blog post, an article, or something for the book I'm still dreaming and talking about. The second half of the assignment is the second-most popular advice I have seen: In order to be a writer, you have to be a ferocious reader. I've just started the book Us by David Nicholls, and so far I'm liking it a great deal. More book-reading to be done this month!

Reach 200 followers on Bloglovin'
I'm so close, at 196 - if you like my blog and aren't following me on Bloglovin' yet, what are you waiting for? It would make my month if I'd break through the 200-barrier!
So go ahead, follow me
Thanks a million my friends

And that's it! As you can see, it's all based on fun things I love to do. The reason is simple: We are not going away on holidays this summer, so I decided to pack as much joy into every day as possible! I have no pressing work goals for now, so July is all about FUN. Ticking off the items on this list shouldn't be difficult...

What are your goals for July? Tell me and/or link up with Maximize Your Month!

  4. Your July goals look so fun - especially swimming in the ocean! I understand the struggle with writing daily, too - that's one of my goals - so I definitely wish you luck with that one (and with all the rest, of course).

Also Donald Duck is super cute and seems so chill about doing yoga with you <3 I hope he enjoys it throughout July as well ;)

  7. awesome goals. i love scrapbooking... i used to scrap frequently back in college but now it feels like it takes so much energy to sit down and scrap; i think i made my layouts too complicated, so doing the project life style is better- simple layouts, with a focus on photos and writing. you should post a pic of your layouts once you complete a page or 2. =)

  8. I know what you mean about ABM inspiring scrapbooking! Having gone through some big life changes this year we've got a couple of books on the shelf waiting to be filled...! Look forward to seeing how July goes for you. Good luck! :)

  9. Well I already follow you via Bloglovin' but I will tweet about it ;) I didn't know you liked scrapbooking. I love it but it is just so time and money consuming so I don't do it often but so worth the hustle! You go yoga goddess! I hope you manage to achieve all these goals :)

  10. You've inspired me to join my first linkup! I enjoyed reading your goals for the month and it spurred me on to create some of my own over at http://www.scentofastory.com/july-goals/ .
Oh and I seem to weirdly be following you in reading habits. The next book I'm going to read when I've finished my current book is The Rosie Project which you recommended the other week and then the one that is waiting to be read after that is US! It's been sitting on my shelf waiting for me for a couple of months and it seemed to greatly resent being pushed down the pile by Rosie. I'm glad to hear the start is as good as I hoped. I loved One Day and so have high hopes for this one.
All of the aims sound great - can't wait to hear the update.

  11. That photo of the duckling sitting on your feet is too cute! And the video cracks me up. I don't have a dog, but whenever I try to practice yoga, I end up with one of our cats sitting on me, or sitting on the spot on the mat where I need to put a hand or foot. It's like cat twister.

  13. For sure! Our summer is out-of-control amazing this year, very desert-like. I don't question it (climate change?), but just enjoy it for what it is. It will probably change again to rain, sooner or later!
I hope you're having a wonderful summer as well, soon-to-be-mama!

  14. He's becoming more independent because he has friends his own age now. *sad face*
But he's still willing to do some yoga with me, as long as I'm quick... ;-)
Writing every day is a blessing and a curse - I love it, but it also is SO HARD sometimes (I'm sure you know what I mean). But it's totally worth it!

  15. You, too! Blogging is an amazing tool to stay accountable when it comes to writing. It's the best task master I've ever had!
I hope you and I will both achieve our writing goals this month!

  16. Thanks! It was scary (I was afraid I might drop him), but he was a champ, holding still the entire time.
This year our summer is extremely sunny and dry, which is unusual for us this time of year.
So we all just soak it in, enjoying it and making the best of it!

  17. I will! To be honest, I have never scrapbooked in my life, and never thought I would. But I have all these photos online without a place to go, and all of a sudden I thought it would be the perfect solution!
I will keep it simple, mainly photos and some cards with writing on it, because otherwise I would never finish. I'm super excited to get started!

  18. Good luck to your books as well! It's so important to document the good times in life, they are too easily forgotten...

  19. You are a star, thanks Isabel!!
To be honest, I have never tried scrapbooking, this will be the first time.
It feels right, because we have so many photos stored online and no home for them - I'm excited to see them printed out in real life!

  20. Same here! I love your take on the challenge and think it's a great way to approach it.
My choice of books is greatly influenced by the Kindle recommended list, because I download most of my books through Kindle. So far they've had some amazing recommendations! The Rosie books are my favourites of this year so far, and "Us" is a fabulous read as well - I'm halfway through, and I greatly enjoy it.

  21. Thank you SO MUCH!!! I'm following Melyssa's advice here (from http://www.thenectarcollective) to add a "call of action" to our posts. It felt very weird, but she knows what she's talking about!
I hope you're enjoying your honeymoon!

  22. I LOVE your link-up! And I'm excited for the results - once it's put out there, it's hard to not do it :-)

  23. Haha, I can imagine! Pets are funny that way, they seem to sense when we want some space and plunk themselves right in the middle of it, just to remind us of who's boss.

  24. Thank you! Posting goals online definitely makes one feel more accountable! Good luck again. :)
