10 things I'm loving right now

Fall is in full swing around here, and I'm loving it! As much as I enjoy summer, this one was a bit of a weird one for me, and I'm really grateful for the fresh start a new season brings. Our temperature has cooled off significantly, and I'm all all about the coziness these days!

I thought I'd share 10 things that make this fall extra sweet for me:

1. New clothes
Shopping for fall clothes is one of my great pleasures in life, and I've found a few really great pieces!
I'm still in my bohemian/free spirit phase (at this point it's not even a phase anymore, but a lifestyle), and I just received this gorgeous maxidress and this Little House on the Prairie-inspired knee-length dress. Paired with these cowboy booties and a little jean jacket they will look amazing! I love them both, and can't wait to share photos with you!

2. A throwback to the 90s
Instagram, that sneaky b*tch, showed me these overalls yesterday, and I couldn't resist and ordered them. I used to own a pair just like it in the early 90s, and I was obsessed with them. I even wore them with white canvas sneakers just like the model in the photo. This time around I'm planning on wearing them with clogs and booties, and a variety of blouses, sweaters and tees.

3. Fresh sheets
I just bought these sheets, and even thought they are 100% Polyester, they are super-soft! The feathers and print are exactly my style, and the soft pink goes really well with my pink walls.

4. Nashville
I recently finished watching the last season of the show Nashville on Netflix, and I'm not gonna lie, I cried. It was such a great happy ending, and this is one of those shows where I got quite attached to the characters. I'm gonna miss them! Even if you're not much into country music it's fun to watch, because it's all about love, friendship, family, and how to figure out life. Add to that the Southern twang, a big dose of glitter and fake eyelashes, and you have the perfect cozy fall-show!

5. The Woman Who Smashed Codes
If you're looking for your next read, look no further than this incredible book: The Woman Who Smashed Codes. It's the real story about Elizebeth Smith Friedman and her husband William, both pioneers in crytology and code-breaking. They both played an immensely important role in World War II breaking encrypted codes that were supposed to be unbreakable, with Elizebeth hunting Nazi spies in South America and her husband breaking codes from the Japanese.
Elizebeth was brilliant, yet her role in fighting the war and creating techniques in code-breaking that are still used today have been largely edited out of the history books. This happened due to an unfortunate combination of politics, male chauvinism, the power-hungry J. Edgar Hoover taking all the credit for himself, and Elizebeth's inherent modesty and habit of downplaying her achievements.
Author Jason Fagone did a fantastic job shining the spotlight on this great woman and giving her the credit that is her due.

6. Golden light
Speaking of light - the light has been magnificent lately. September has its own unique goldenness, and there isn't anything else quite like it. I love that light with all my heart.

7. Jason Momoa
Since I live under a rock when it comes to popular movies, music, or TV shows, I rely on other people to show me what I've been missing out on. I will forever be grateful to my co-worker for introducing me to Jason Momoa, whom I had not heard of before today! I know, I know, it's shameful, but that's one of my quirks and we'll all have to live with it.
We spent a happy lunch break today drooling over looking at photos and videos of a topless Jason, and by golly, if that wasn't the best break I've had in a long time.

8. Self-improvement
I hopped back on the self-improvement train! Or to be more accurate, I've dipped my big toe into it. As I've mentioned a few times, this year has not been an easy one for me, and I'm in the process of healing/figuring out what I need/what my goals and next steps are.
I'm getting into meditation again, I'm consciously slowing down more (well, trying to at this stage), and I'm also back to journaling a few times a week. One of my favourite authors, Brianna Wiest, just released a guided journal called I Am The Hero Of My Own Life, and I ordered it because it looks amazing! It includes writing prompts, exercises, motivational quotes and articles, all designed to help us figure out our ideal life and what's preventing us from living it. I can't wait to get started on it!

9. French Press Coffee
Since moving to my new part-time place where there isn't a regular coffee machine, I have discovered the deliciousness that is French Pressed coffee. It is seriously SO fricking amazing! I still have my regular machine at home (because it's convenient, and you can make much more in one go), but during my weeks here I enjoy this special treat that is the much more aromatic French coffee.

10. These guys.
My faves in every season 💝

What's making you happy this fall?

xoxo Miriam

  1. The book sounds very good. I will definitely read it. I had the same overalls in the 90s. I loved them and I kind of want another pair.

    1. Same here, I can't wait for them to arrive! I'm not a big fan of 90s fashion, but overalls are the exception. They are so awesome!

The book is really so good, I'm sure you will enjoy it! She was a remarkable woman.

      Have a great weekend Jenny!

  2. You would love Jason Mamoa in Game of Thrones! Yum! He's rough and scary at first but you end up loving him.
I was so sad when Nashville ended too! I had also fallen totally in love with them.

    1. That's a show I will definitely watch again, because I love "hanging" out with the characters. Plus, they always inspire me to be more creative!

I've resisted watching Game of Thrones for so long - but now I HAVE to watch it! And Aquaman too! Jason is just too beautiful. *sigh*

    1. It is! I really enjoyed it.
Have you seen the movie "The Imitation Game" with Benedict Cumberbatch? It's from the same time period, except that the movie features a British genius code-breaker, Alan Turing, and the book is about the American counterpart, Elizebeth Smith Friedman. As per usual, I liked reading the book about that time period (and a woman!) a lot more than watching the movie, even though that was good as well.

I hope that by the time I get home on Thursday from my week away my overalls will be waiting for me! I adore online shopping.
