First of all: Happy 4th of July 'Merica!
Enjoy your BBQs, fireworks and red, white and blue desserts (if you believe Pinterest). I just noticed that my outfit contains red (lips+toes), white and blue - all just for you!
(In reality it's a total coincidence, but I won't tell if you won't.)
Actually, this was my going to the dentist-outfit. (Minus the flower in my hair and the red lips. Don't wanna overdo it.)
I like going to the dentist as much as the next person (i.e. not at all), so I have a few strategies I use to make it more tolerable.
Strategy 1: Put on a nice dress. It puts me in a good mood, and I hope that the dentist appreciates the effort and will therefore be more gentle. That is one person you want to have on your side!
Strategy 2: Promise myself a treat for after. This time it was a pedicure, which seems a bit contradictory after my last impassioned post. Sorry guys, what can I say - to quote Lady Grantham (Downton Abbey): "I'm a woman, Mary. I can be as contrary as I choose."
Strategy 3: While I'm in the chair, I let my thoughts drift (as far away from the current situation as possible), and envision what will have changed in my life the next time I'm back in that same chair.
I have switched to a new dentist, and it was my first visit. The very friendly dental hygienist happened to ask what I do for a living, and I happily told her that I am an x-ray technologist. I always like telling people what job I have (I'm proud of it), but particularly when I'm in a health care setting - I always feel like they may treat me more like family once they know. We chatted a bit, and then she started her cleaning business and I had time to let my mind wander.
What I envisioned for myself was this: To be able to tell people, one day: "I am a writer." And when they ask me what I have written, to actually have a published book that I can refer them to.
Yes, one day...

Having some one-on-one time with the big guy.
"I can fly!"
Red toes.
What am I doing? That's what happens when I try to 'pose'. It's ridiculous.
And that's what happens when I try to do something fancy with my hair. Uhm, I will have to watch a few more youtube tutorials.
The geese are mystified.
I know it's America's day today, but I'm from Canada, and our big day happened 3 days ago. Just keeping the memory alive.
"Hey, mom is on the ground, let's play!"
Corgi photo bomber.
The rose looks so much better on Snowy than on me.
Dress: Target (last year); belt: Old Navy (very old); sandals: Old Navy
Earrings: Stella & Dot; pearl necklace: souvenir from Peru; fan: souvenir from somewhere along Hwy 1; sunnies: Otter Co-op (my favourite neighbourhood store)
Have a fabulous (long) weekend!
xoxo Miriam

Hi Miriam. This is Ada again. You look adorable in that beautiful dress for your trip to the dentist. Gorgeous outdoor photos, too. Your braid and flower in your hair are the cutest. I just recently added a navy w/white polka dots romper that I cannot wait to wear. Your outfit has a Patriotic feel too, so proper for the 4th of July.
ReplyDeleteHappy Holiday Weekend and stop by sometimes. I miss hearing from you. Ada. =)
I like the plan of getting dressed up for such a mundane and unpleasant task!
ReplyDeleteLove the polka dot dress, Miriam! The photos with the dogs are absolutely the cutest. :)
ReplyDeleteAnother amazing dress! Love the photo shoot. You always make it look so natural and fun. :)
ReplyDeleteLoving all your photobombers :)

Thank you! I love colour, and that dress was a must-buy when I saw it at Target last year. What's better than polka dots and a dress with pockets? Not much!
DeleteI'm creating stories in my head all the time, and started on a book - just have to keep at it I guess.
I will head over to your blog now!
xo
I LOVE that dress! I'm pretty much a sucker for polka dots and pockets. It looks great on you :) The pictures with the dogs are so great!

Such a cuuuute dress!
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE your dogs. I just want to give that Great Pyr a hug.
He is very huggable! But his greatest joy is if you scratch his bum. He simply loves that! ;-)
