Tour of Blogland

Welcome to the Tour of Blogland! If you're scratching your head and wondering what the heck it is, let me enlighten you! This is one of those great, show-your-love-and-support-each-other campaigns that make blogging such a positive experience. I was nominated by my blog friend Mariah from Food, Booze & Baggage, who did her post last week. The point of it is to introduce three bloggers to your own group of readers, then they introduce three on their blogs, and so on. It creates a beautiful ripple effect, with all of us helping each other out. What's not to love?

There are a few questions to answer, let's get this party started!

What am I working on?
Trying to figure out my destiny. X-ray tech for life? Making a living of the imaginary novels I always bang on about I want to write one day? (Many great things happen on that mystical one day.)
Apart from that, I always work on improving my photography, my writing, and imaginative ways of how to do my hair.

How does my work differ from others in its genre?
Genre? Do I have to have a genre?
This is a much debated point of discussion in blogland. Some people insist you should have a niche (i.e. fashion, DIY, beauty), while others say call it lifestyle and write about whatever your heart desires. While I can see the reasoning behind both views, I'm somewhere in between.

I live on a farm, yet please don't ever ask me any detailed farm-related questions: you will be met with a blank, slightly panicked stare. Rich is the farmer, I'm the lucky girl who can delight in being surrounded by animals, without having to worry about too many details.

I love taking pictures, but please don't ask me any questions about aperture, f-stop or ISO - you will be met with the same blank expression as above.

I also love clothes. Lovely, pretty clothes with their power to make a boring day exciting, to start conversations, to give you a spring in your step. But am I a 'fashionista'? Ha, I don't think so! Just a girl who likes to dress up.

Lastly, I go on and on (and on) about wanting to write a novel (or short stories, which is much easier!). Am I an author? Nope. Do I want to be? Heck, yes!

To sum it up: I blog about things I love, but don't know too much about. My hope is to learn it as I go along, and you are all part of the ride! I'm not a teacher, but a fellow wanderer trying to figure things out.

Why do I write/create what I do?
There is a quote I read once, that describes it perfectly:

"I write entirely to find out what I'm thinking,
what I'm looking at, what I see and what it means.
What I want and what I fear"
- Joan Didion

That's it. Writing is my passion, my saviour, my therapist, my joy. Life is better when I can write about it.

How does my writing/creating process work?
An idea pops into my head, I sit down and start typing. Honestly, that's it. Ideas for topics pop into my head all day long: when I'm out with the dogs, mucking out the stalls, watching TV, reading. The hard part is trying to single out a thought and bring it to life in a coherent fashion.

And now, let me introduce you to three lovely ladies whose blogs I adore!

Danielle from Underland to Wonderland:
'I'm Danielle and my blog is Underland to Wonderland. It has been for the past 3 years and will continue to be for a very long time my online journal of everything that is important to me. You'll see lots of Disney, come with my partner, dog and I on our adventures and be overloaded with photography of beautiful things and places. I'm an old fashioned and modest homemaker from a small seaside, historical town on the border of England and Scotland, who enjoys the simple things in life and strives to share positivity and inspiration - not to mention live a cruelty free, animal friendly life!'

Samantha from Samsam Cherie:

'Samsam Cherie is a lifestyle blog about living as simply, naturally, and happily as possible. In this space, I share my experiences in life as a senior at university, tidbits on living a vegan lifestyle, delicious recipes, and a unique perspective as a student living so far from home.'

'My blog is basically just about my volleyball life. I'm a pretty new blogger, only about a month in, but so far I am writing on a variety of things like, loving the outdoors, ink (in all its forms), my pets, married life, and of course, volleyball. I hope to have some fashion posts going soon, but for now I am sticking to what I know. I play volleyball about 3-4 times a week, and it's actually how I met my husband. I love being outdoors no matter what the weather because nothing beats breathing in the fresh air. I love what the blogging world has to offer so far, and I can't wait to get to know it even better!'

Show these fabulous ladies some love and go for a visit! You won't regret it.

xoxo Miriam

  1. I don't have a niche either. I say I'm just part of the niche of awesome. Ha! :)

  2. Thank you so much, yet again, for choosing me to be a part of this. I can't express how much it means to me that other people enjoy my posts!! But yeah, what is my niche? haha Unless you are a beauty, fashion, DIY etc blogger, like you say it really is hard to categorize yourself.
Looking forward to checking out the other two beautiful ladies!

  4. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm so honored! I have to say, I completely agree with your motivation to write: "Writing is my passion, my saviour, my therapist, my joy. Life is better when I can write about it." It definitely is! And what an awesome community we have here, a space away from everything where we can meet amazing individuals, learn about different lifestyles, share our passions, and meet some gosh darn adorable corgis :) Looking back over the past year, I don't know where I would be or what I would be doing without my blog. I can't wait to meet more bloggers like you and these gals!

  5. Thank you so much Miriam for featuring me on your blog! I am so honoured! I am such a newbie at this, but you are such an inspiration, and motivation. I think deep down we all do these blogs ultimately for ourselves, but it's so lovely to know that we have such a community or fellow bloggers cheering us on! Keep up the good work everyone!
