You know you are an x-ray tech when...

... you wash your hands before going to the bathroom. And after as well, hopefully.

... you take your work policies seriously - making a diagnosis is not your job.

... you use the word gonads in normal conversation: Patient: "Why are you putting lead on my lap?" Me: "To protect your gonads."

... you think bones are cool, and dress accordingly.

... you know that bones are not only cool, but funny as well.

... you are being called a nurse every day. Which makes you want to yell out:
(We are technologists.)

... you have first-hand experience that family members in the exam room can complicate things.
source
... you understand the importance of taking pictures of "the girls".
source
... you never stop marvelling at where people put things. Or at the strange accidents that can happen.

... you work best in the dark.

Fellow x-ray techs, what did I forget? Let me know in the comments!

    1. Nope, the x-rays pass through and are gone in milliseconds. No lingering radiation in the room, or afterglow for the patient.
There is a different kind of treatment, nuclear medicine, where the patient has to consume tiny amounts of radiopharmaceuticals (usually though an IV or in form of pills). Special "cameras" are then recording the radiation the patient is giving off. It's basically the opposite of normal x-ray procedures. After this exam, the patient will continue to give off small amounts of radiation for several hours.

  2. Too funny! And OUCH - that first pic of the mangled hand...I can't even imagine what that poor soul must have suffered through! I think my favorite part of this post is the "Mammogramming boobs is more important than instagramming them" - if only people could remember that!!!!
