The people have spoken: 10 most popular blog posts

'Tis the season for recaps. I personally love them dearly, they are amongst the best things of this time of year! Helene has her top 10 post up today, so I decided to follow suit.

Without further ado, let me present to you: Farm Girl's Top 10 posts of the year!

A blogging post made it into the top 10! Like most (all?) bloggers I love to talk about blogging, and that post was so much fun to write: It was a tongue-in-cheek look at the addictive ridiculousness that is blogging. I love it.

A personal post about being an introvert. I did not fully realize that that's what I am until I read Susan Cain's book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking. This year has been one of discovery for me, and this one was a huge one.

A story about a dinner party where I knew only a few people, with the rest being total strangers. Pretty much a nightmare scenario for an introvert, but I did not only get through it, but had fun doing so! A few tips on how to do the dreaded small talk.

You seem to like my fashion posts, which makes me happy - I love doing them!

This was one of my "funny" posts, and proof once again that sex sells. I still get the odd guy that comes to my blog because he was googling "hate wife's ugly undies". Sorry buddy, I can't help you there - mine are ugly too. Underwear just isn't my thing.

In June I wrote a manifesto about the purpose of the blog and what I want to achieve with it. If I would have to describe it with one sentence, it would be: You are not alone. I want to let every sad, insecure, lost soul know that whatever you are going through, you are not alone with it: We have all felt that way before, and still do over and over again. There is strength in numbers!

Another blogging post! A dire warning for anybody who has ever contemplated to start a blog: Don't do it! Save yourself before it's too late! Once you are sucked in, you may never find your way out again. Trust someone who lives in eternal blogging purgatory, never to find her way out again.

The title is pretty self-explanatory: I took a look at society's obsession with the "thigh gap" (a term I was unfamiliar with until this year), and how ridiculous it all is.

The popularity of this post baffles me. It has no pictures, it is short, and it talks about nothing - why keep people clicking on it? It must have something to do with the mysterious SEO, a subject I plan on learning a lot more about in the new year. SEO is powerful.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, the moment you have all been waiting for - drum roll - the number one post of 2014:

It had 2,913 page views, which is a lot for me. Why is it so popular? I have no clue. It features babies, maybe that's the reason? Whatever it is, you guys seem to dig it.

Thank you all so much for reading my blog, commenting and showing love! You are what makes running this blog such a pleasure.

Love, Miriam

  1. Wow you've had a great year!!! Personally I loved the cellulite vs. thigh gap post, but I'm also surprised the "How I met your Father" posts didn't make the countdown! Maybe it's because they're so new...but I'm seriously loving them! And can I just say, all of the posts you fill with animal pics are by far my favorite. You know my obsession with them - I'm living vicariously through your blog...my silly university has a "no pets in the dorms" rule and I've got one year to go!
I am so glad that I discovered your blog this year, Miriam <3 You are such an inspiration to me and I always look forward to reading your posts! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
