They threw rocks!

I'm writing this from a small, shabby Motel 6 room with spotty Internet reception. This room is a fitting end to today.
There was rain (in Southern California!), crazy winds, a disappointing show, rocks thrown at our truck, and a missed connection.

But let's start at the beginning.

Our morning was filled with wide, big landscapes. Seemingly endless. Lots of yellow, brown and beige. There were tumbleweeds, sheep, cattle, oil fields, and huge (irrigated) plantations of nuts and oranges.

Everything was going smoothly.
Except for the weather: the closer we got to Los Angeles, the worse it got: strong winds, rain, dark clouds.

Then we took a wrong turn.
And landed in a pretty sketchy neighbourhood in San Bernardino. We were looking for a city map to help us find the fairgrounds were the pigeon show was being held.
First gas station: nothing. Just a weird, young guy who didn't understand us and couldn't give us directions. Second gas station: same result. Nobody knows nothing.

Our truck was parked at one of the gas stations, next to a fenced in field. Kids were off school, and some of them were hanging out in that field.
We just got back into the car when a couple boys started throwing rocks at us! We decided to get the hell out of there, but a traffic light stopped us, and one of the rocks hit our vehicle.
Seriously, I was equally outraged and scared. What's wrong with these kids??

We did find the show (maps navigation on my cell did the trick, I don't even care about the roaming fees), which turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. Pretty small, and nothing exciting there.

So we made our way to Indio, to go see our friends a day early. The only problem: They live in a gated community, and we couldn't get a hold of them. Something seems to be wrong with their phone, we didn't get through. We are locked out!

That's how we ended up in this dingy little room. And where I will go to bed now, since it is 9pm after all.

Let's see what tomorrow brings!

    1. We never did manage to connect with our friends, their phone line seems to be down. Maybe caused by the storm? But never mind, we had a fantastic day yesterday and are excited to explore the coast today! We bypassed Huntington Beach due to our desert tour, but thanks again for the offer :-)

So sorry for your bad trip. But the picture of the clouds and mountains is just fabulous.
